Assignment due Friday, October 21
8B students received a packet with a significant amount of practice material for chapter 4, sections 1 through 5.
The minimum requirement for Friday is section 4.3, Practice Masters B and C.
Students who find Practice Master B confusing should start with the pp. 183-184, questions 13 to 23, odd, so they can check their answers in the back of the book.
Students who received at least a B at the quarter may skip Practice Master B if they can do C comfortably. I recommend they continue on to the other included 4.3 materials.
All students would be well served to review the material from sections 4.1 and 4.2. Most are very comfortable with the mechanics of proportionality and percentage included therein, but less comfortable setting up the word problems.

A very strong suggestion:
Many of our students in 8B are either lacking or simply slow in basic math facts. Students must know their times tables, long division, negative numbers, and operations with fractions to be successful in algebra. These are arithmetic concepts which they would have learned from 2nd (multiplication) through 7th grades. The ability to use these concepts well and quickly is essential.
I strongly recommend drilling on these items throughout fall break.

In retrospect...
Tuesday's homework assignment was pp. 168-170: 15-45, multiples of 3; 46-48, all, and 52-64, all.
Wednesday's was pp.176-177, 34-86, even.

What I failed to mention in the last post was that...
Only the first four pages of the review packet (on gray paper) are due Monday. However, students are welcome to do more if they feel confident.
